Simpora Foundation was founded in 2023 by Roanne & Greg Bodnarchuk, owner-operators of the Best Western Plus Okotoks Inn & Suites. Simpora Foundation is an Okotoks-based, non-profit association committed to building a strong foundation for athletes based on three pillars - sport, health and the community.
From a young age, competition is something we participate in, watch, pay money for and love. Sports clubs bring communities together and in many rural towns when the local teams win, the community also wins. Our society has given athletes a huge leadership position and the opportunity to be role models within our communities.
At Simpora Foundation, we believe that giving back to the community provides many benefits to an individual’s mental and physical health. Mental fitness and physical health have been observed through the Latin motto “mens sana in corpore sano” (a healthy mind in a healthy body) for centuries. Studies have shown that actively participating in your community brings a sense of connection, strength and solidarity to the individual.
Simpora Foundation is committed to fundraise through events, provide sponsorship and immerse local (Okotoks and area) athletes into their communities. We believe that athletes have a strong influence on younger athletes. They serve as role models by promoting healthy living, social responsibility, and education. As mentors, they are molding well-rounded individuals to learn the principles of hard work, self-confidence, leadership, resilience and teamwork.
The Inaugural Rubber Duck Derby and Carnival took place August 19, 2023. The rubber ducks launched at Sheep River Park and the winning ducks crossed the finish line, at the Laurie Boyd bridge. After the Rubber Duck Derby, we also hosted a free to attend and open to the public multi-generational Family Fun Carnival with fun games, dunk tank, winning prizes, and local food and beverages.
The Best Western Plus Okotoks Inn & Suites is excited to be partnering with the Okotoks Food Bank on an exciting initiative that is near and dear to our hearts. We feel it is important to give back and work alongside the community to accomplish large goals, and this one is no exception.
As a locally owned and operated business, we are passionate about our community and we would like to do what we can to support those in need of hot, hearty meals.
Based on the 40 Hot Meal Project out of Medicine Hat, we are creating the same collaboration of business owners and restaurants in support of the Okotoks Food Bank, right here in our hometown.
Okotoks Food Bank:
The Okotoks Food Bank has seen a considerable increase in demand over the past few years. They serve over 1,422 hampers to individual households through their main Food Hamper Program - 60% of which are adults and 40% children. That is 7-10 days worth of food to 4,232 individuals.
We have committed to purchasing 40 individually packaged and frozen dinners from a local restaurant. The restaurant will make, package, freeze and deliver the meals to the food bank. From there, the food bank will supply these meals to those in need through their food hampers.
We genuinely believe that if we can help families put one more meal on the table, we are going to do just that!
To sustain this initiative with the food bank, we need your help. Let's work together to support the families in our community.
Thank you for your support!
